Trivia - Lyoko

  • In False Start, Aelita said that there wasn't any air to breathe and that there were no scents on Lyoko.
  • Lyoko was called Xanadu in Garage Kids.
  • Aelita has also said there are no mirages on Lyoko. What a person sees is real, not an illusion.
  • According to Jeremie, there are only two senses on Lyoko: sight and sound, although this is false as Team Lyoko has felt pain there. And in episode Wreck Room, when William devirtulized Yumi by slicing her head in two pieces with his Zweihander, she emerged out of the Scanners with a Head-ache.
  • In the actual canon, Lyoko is generally uninhabited except for Aelita and XANA. Fans often rework Lyoko into an inhabited world, such as the fanfic City of Whispers, where the people of Lyoko are known as the Telleursians.

Lyoko

This article is about the digital world. For the code, see LYOKO (code).

Lyoko (pronounced either l'yoh-koh or lee-oh-koh) is a virtual world created by Franz Hopper to be the staging ground for the destruction of Project Carthage (shown in the picture as the yellow sphere in the center). Eventually, Hopper changed the structure of the world so it would serve as a sanctuary for him and his daughter, Aelita, should there be any sort of emergency. Lyoko is housed within a vast supercomputer in the Factory, and only Aelita and Jeremie fully understand it. Lyoko used to be split into five parts, called sectors. The only remaining sector is Carthage. Lyoko used to have four other sectors, the Desert, Ice Barrier, Forest, and Mountain sectors, but these were destroyed in The Pretender, Sabotage, Lyoko Minus One, and Double Trouble, respectively. Within Lyoko's sectors are Towers, which are structures those on Lyoko can use to communicate with the real world. Lyoko was temporarily destroyed after William destroyed the core; in William Returns, Aelita and Jeremie used data transmitted from Franz Hopper in Final Round to reconstruct Carthage, and by Double Take, Jeremie and Aelita had managed to recreate the four surface sectors as the Holomap showed. In The World Network, Lyoko has the appearance of a large grey craggy ball with the network gate at its south pole. Like planets orbiting the Sun, Lyoko (and its Replikas) appear to have a gravitational pull around its outer shell.
Lyoko's outer shell as seen in William Returns.
Lyoko disappeared, for good, after Team Lyoko shut down the supercomputer in the episode Echoes.

Real Factory

The Factory in Code: LYOKO is based off a real factory in France called the Renault automobile factory. The Factory was founded before World War II, and produced many vehichles during that time period. Later in 1992, fhe factory shut down and was abandoned, just like in the show. In 2001, Antefilms used it as the base model of the Factory in Garage Kids and later Code Lyoko (which looks near perfect as shown in the images). Unfortunately, in 2005, it was demolished to create a museum. However, the artifacts that were originally going to the art museum were later sent to a museum in Venice instead. Now all that remains is dirt and the entrance.

Factory Floor Plan

At ground level is the Factory Floor, which contains the entrance to the Factory Lift. Also on this floor are the machine rooms of the factory.
Above the ground floor is the upper level of the factory. This floor is normally accessed by a walkway bordering the inside of the building. The upper level is where the bridge meets the factory, and hence where the characters normally enter. To get down to the ground floor, they swing down on cables.
The Lab is the first room below the surface, and it is where Jeremie monitors Team Lyoko's progress on Lyoko. Directly below the Lab is the Scanner Room, which can also be accessed by a hatch from the Lab. The bottommost room is the Supercomputer Room, which contains the supercomputer. It is accessible using a hatch from the Scanner Room.

The Factory

The Factory :
The Factory is located in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, near Kadic. It used to be an old car factory, and was used by Franz Hopper as a base of operations in his experiments with Lyoko and Carthage. The Factory is considered to be Team Lyoko's headquarters.
The Factory is located in the middle of the Seine River, on what appears to be an artificial island. A bridge connects it to the mainland. A manhole on the bridge leads to the Sewers below; typically, members of Team Lyoko come up through this after travelling through the sewers from Kadic. The Factory can also be reached by boat; Team Lyoko used a dinghy in Plagued when XANA blocked the bridge with rats.
The building itself is occasionally used in XANA's schemes; he most often uses the Factory Floor to make things, or attack our heroes. For example, XANA used the machinery there to make a robot in the episode The Robots.

Kadic Academy

(Redirected from Kadic)
Kadic during sunrise.
Kadic Full
The real-world inspiration for Kadic.
Kadic Junior High School, also known as Kadic Academy, is a Junior High and High School located in Boulogne-Billancourt, a suburb of Paris, in France. It is actually existent in real life, though it is not called Kadic; it is instead called Lakanal College. It is where Team Lyoko attends school, as well as all the the other kids live. The school was built in the early 1900s, as stated in the episode Is Anybody Out There?.
Kadic is made up of various buildings, most of them connected to one another, others not. These buildings include the Dormitory Building, the Science Building, the Cafeteria, and various other locations. Kadic also has a Park, a Track and a Recreation Room (opened in Wreck Room) for the students in their free time. Kadic is a boarding school, and therefore the students live there, though a small number of local students, including Yumi, commute to it as if it was a normal school. Classes occur 6 days a week (classes are only in the morning on Saturdays), according to Ulrich, but there are no classes on holidays or Sundays. This may change, as most French schools are now adopting the American version of the school week. Students are allowed to leave the grounds with permission. The Sewers connect it to the Factory. There are various entrances to the Sewers as well, though the one in the Park is the most used. There is also a tunnel from the Gym.
The school is also racially and culturally diverse, containing many people who are French-African or those of Japanese, Chinese, German, and Indian origin.
Jean-Pierre Delmas is the principal and Jim Morales is the campus supervisor, one of Mr. Delmas's advisors, perhaps a former student, and Suzanne Hertz is the other advisor.
Kadic Academy has a very strict policy against cell phones in class (and according to Jim, on school grounds in general) as revealed in Satellite, but the children are not required to wear school uniforms, if there are any, as part of Kadic's dress code.

Code Lyoko Evolution

Code Lyoko Evolution is the long-awaited fifth season of Code Lyoko, and is set for release in 2012. It was announced on the official Code Lyoko Facebook page by Moonscoop that the show will be renewed for 26 episodes, more information was said to be provided at a later date. According to the creators, there is a possibility that the scenes in the Real World will be filmed on location in Boulogne-Billancourt, making the show a live-action series. This is hinted in Codelyoko.fr's season announcement when it was mentioned that " You will see your heroes like you've never seen before" . It was also confirmed that the Lyoko scenes will remain in animation.

Trivia :

  • The only photographic update for the new season is a poster with the title on it that is currently the main page of Codelyoko.com.
  • It is unknown at this time if the new season will be a continuation of Season 4 or will be a whole new continuity of the show.(As in if it will be Code Lyoko [Season 5], or Code Lyoko Evolution [Season 1].)

X.A.N.A

XANA, the primary adversary of Team Lyoko, is an evil mulitagent program who plots to destroy humanity.

Creation :
XANA, as well as Lyoko, were originally created by Franz Hopper to destroy Project Carthage, a multiagent program designed to monitor enemy of the state communications for the French government. But XANA developed independence, and when Franz Hopper and his daughter, Aelita, came to Lyoko to hide from the French Secret Service, XANA took the chance, imprisoning Hopper and stealing Aelita's memories. Then it spent its time creating monsters to materialize into the real world.

Conflict With Team Lyoko :
After approximately a decade of dormancy, Jeremie Belpois stumbled upon the Supercomputer and reactivated it. Soon after that, XANA launched his first attack. Through a lucky series of co-incidences, Jeremie virtualized three of his new friends, Yumi Ishiyama, Ulrich Stern and Odd Della Robbia onto Lyoko to help Aelita deactivate the activated Tower. XANA reacted by sending hordes of virtual monsters to attack Team Lyoko. But the team always seemed to defeat XANA and use a Time reversion to make everything go back in time before the attack.
At first, XANA's attacks were based mainly on things linked to the Internet or electrical appliances, such as putting paralyzing songs on the Internet for students to download or changing train times so the trains would collide and spill poisonous chemicals everywhere. But soon it began possessing inanimate and low-intelligence objects/bioforms, like teddy bears and bees.
But as Team Lyoko caused more and more Time Reversions, XANA grew stronger, both physically and mentally. It could soon possess people and huge electrical systems. It was undoubtedly growing more powerful. When Jeremie successfully materialized Aelita, XANA changed its tactics. It now either targeted Aelita or Jeremie, as either one was crucial to disabling its attacks. By the second season, XANA virtually only possessed people. In Season 2, XANA would deploy a monster called the Scyphozoa to take her keys to Lyoko. In The Key, XANA succeeded and escaped the Supercomputer. As of the end of Season 2, XANA can strike anywhere on Earth, however in Season 3, XANA continues to focus his main attacks on Team Lyoko and even though it broke it's link with the supercomputer, XANA still needs to activate a Tower on Lyoko in order to unleash an attack.
XANA attacks appear to be limited to the area surrounding the supercomputer it is attacking from (except off earth objects like in Hot Shower) as when it activates a tower on Lyoko or a Replika it appears to be limited to possessing creatures or items in the immediate area around the supercomputer.

Personality :
XANA, being a program, has not developed much of a personality, and doesn't really have one because it is really just a computer. Nevertheless, it often seems that XANA has specific attributes. For one, it is incredibly intelligent, possibly to an abnormal extreme, and knows almost everything scientific about Earth. XANA is also very cunning and sneaky, often hiding its schemes until the last moment, unlike many other fictional villains, who rant on about their grand designs. XANA also has a moderate understanding of human emotions, though only until a certain level; it cannot grasp complex emotions like love and compassion, but can easily understand simpler ones such as anger, envy, and even seduction. It seems to have a particular "hatred" of Jeremie as well, maybe because of his knowledge and guidance to Team Lyoko.
The only thing it values above Team Lyoko's destruction is its own survival, as seen in Marabounta, when it teamed up with them to eliminate the Marabounta, an immediate threat. It also refuses to attack the Factory in seasons 1 and 2, for obvious reasons. It did once deactivate the Scanners in a failed attempt to kill the Lyoko Warriors. It also had a need to get out of the Supercomputer. In Saint Valentine's Day, XANA released Aelita, his key to escaping, from its control when Odd started firing at her, threatening her deletion. Other times, XANA's monsters would hold their fire, refusing to shoot at Aelita.

Power And Abilities :
XANA possesses a set of unique abilities. His most common power is activating towers and entering the real world and preform his evil. Another one of his common powers is technopathy, the ability to manipulate technology at will. He can also take the form of a smoke like creature when he's about to take over a body or technology. His most powerful ability is possession, which he uses to take over a living thing or inanimate object in order to cause destruction and succeed in his plans. When he possessed something, he endows them with superhuman powers (generating lightning, and superhuman physical abilities) Another one of his abilities is to materialize monsters on Lyoko. He can even manipulate Lyoko (tilted the desert sector and cause a sand storm in the same episode). In Nobody in Particular, he was able to make a shortcut to the Core of Lyoko. XANA is also able to slightly manipulate the laws of reality (in Teddygozilla he made Milly's Teddy Bear grow to gigantic size).

Appearance :

Appearance

The only real physical incarnation of XANA as seen in Ghost Channel.
As stated above, XANA is a program, and does not actually have a physical manifestation as humans do. The only real thing one could count as being XANA is the Eye of XANA, and that is just really a symbol. Some fans believe that XANA is actually a spectre, but it has been proven spectres are not actually XANA, just extensions of his will. In Season 2, XANA possessed people, but once again, even that was just XANA inside a person's body, and not XANA himself. Using polymorphic clones is another way, too. The only real physical incarnation of XANA is seen in Ghost Channel, where he takes on the apperance of Jeremie. When the real Jeremie comes and discovers XANA, XANA's glasses shatter, his hair sticks upward, his eyes lose their pupils and glow a bright white, he is surrounded by an orange aura, and he suddenly gains the ability to float in midair, as well as a deep, maniacal voice that most polymorphic clones have.

The Eye Of XANA :
When XANA possesses or controls something, the Eye of XANA usually appears on it. When XANA possesses computers, for instance, the Eye will appear on their screen. If it possessed people, the Eye would appear somewhere on their bodies, such as their foreheads or eyes. The Eye of XANA was, originally, Franz Hopper's symbol, and is technically just a symbol for the Lyoko supercomputer and Franz Hopper's organization. The Eye is also used ocassionally by Aelita. Almost all of XANA's monsters have an Eye of XANA (often located on the "forehead").

 Replikas :
In the period between The Key and William Returns, XANA had been using the data stolen from Aelita to create small virtual worlds called Replikas which each contain a copy of one of Lyoko's sectors. Although Team Lyoko have managed to destroy a few, XANA managed to create a huge number of replikas, and used the energy from at least seven of them to create the Kolossus.

Human Forms :
Despite the fact that XANA is a program in the actual canon, he has taken on several human forms in order to entice a Lyoko Warrior. One of the more famous was XANA-Yumi. He uses Yumi's beauty in a failed attempt to seduce Jeremie. After that failed, he attempted to kill him by throwing him down to the Supercomputer, but a time reversion saved the young boy from death.

Destruction :
XANA finally meets his destruction after Jeremie created a multi agent program that works its way through the The World Network and removes every trace of XANA and his minions, this however came at a price as Franz Hopper sacrificed himself to activate the program. In the real world, XANA's appearance is of a black spectre rising into the air in the factory and vanishing.

Behind the Scanes :
  • XANA is voiced by David Gasman in the American version of Code Lyoko, whom also voices Herb, Jim, and William.
  • In the original pilot Garage Kids, Lyoko was called Xanadu, and XANA is an obvious spawn from that name. It is still unknown what XANA stands for, and most fanfiction doesn't even come close to explaining.

Trivia

  • The word "yumi" is also a type of Japanese longbow. These bows are rather large. Incidentally, Yumi is the tallest member of Team Lyoko. Her full name translates from Japanese as "beauty of the stone mountain" (ishi meaning "stone", yama meaning "mountain").
  • Yumi is the one that has battled William one on one the most.
  • Yumi is the first one to be lost at sea in her Nav Skid.
  • Up to Season 4, Yumi was the only member of Team Lyoko who fell into the Digital Sea in Cruel Dilemma, she was brought back by Jeremie's first Materialization program. She is also the one that has almost fallen into the Digital Sea the most.
  • As somewhat of a running gag, Yumi has received the brunt of most of XANA's attacks (this is especially noticeable in season one and season three).
  • It is revealed in Skidbladnir that Yumi knows Morse Code, which she and her brother use to keep secrets from their parents.
  • It is revealed in The Trap, Yumi has slight fear of heights.
  • In season 1, episodes 6-10 (Cruel Dilemma, Image Problem, End of Take, Satellite and The Girl of the Dreams) were informally known as 'Pick On Yumi Week', because in each episode, Yumi would be the one who suffered most of the group's woes.
  • Yumi is often the first one to be devirtualized on Lyoko.
  • Yumi was the only Lyoko Warrior to have their Digital Genetic Code/DNA Sequence Code stolen.
  • Ulrich saves Yumi multiple times from falling into the Digital Sea.

Ishiyama Descripition

As of "Lab Rat", Yumi is 15 years old, and therefore the oldest member in the group. As stated above, this has made her the mature person of the team, giving her the task of making sure the younger members, like Odd and Jeremie, don't get into trouble. She also has a crush on Ulrich, but they are constantly pestered by fanboys and fangirls of their own. Because of her age, she is a member of the ninth grade. Yumi also seems to have a brother-and-sister relationship with Jeremie, who seems to consider her third-in-command (with Aelita being second-in-command, of course). Yumi usually talks to Jeremie about her feelings about Sissi, Ulrich, and the others, as seen in Log Book.
Yumi likes wearing black, and all her clothes (and her hair) are that color. She is of Japanese descent, and even did a cultural report at school on her homeland in The Girl of the Dreams, bringing in some traditional samurai armor (she calls it "something that has been in my family for centuries"). She also sometimes integrates Japanese words into her speech, which only Ulrich and Odd can understand (once in Exploration and again in Vertigo). Yumi is the only student not boarding at Kadic. She lives with her parents and her younger brother, Hiroki, in a house not too far from Kadic, as she walks to and from the school.
Yumi's Lyoko attire is modeled after a Japanese geisha. She is the leader of the group in the virtual world, often jumping in to save the day at the last moments. It has been shown she is quite athletic in Lyoko, often leaping high into the "air" before throwing her Tessen Fans, her primary weapons. These tessen fans can also be used to absorb lasers from monsters such as Bloks, as shown in Mister Puck. In Lyoko, she can also use telekinesis to disable her foes, usually be dropping virtual rocks on them. In Season 1 she is easily exhausted by this mode of defense, however. In Mister Puck, she used her telekinesis in conjunction with her tessen, using it to steer an inaccurate fan mid-flight into a Blok. She may, on some occasions, lift other Lyoko Warriors with her telekinesis. One occasion, it was to lift Odd and prevent him from falling into the Digital Sea. In another---the episode Attack of the Zombies-- it was to lift Aelita to a tower that was made invisible.
Yumi's old real world outfit
In Double Take Yumi's outfit changes so that she wears a pink and purple body suit with flowered shoulder pads, she no longer has the geisha makeup on however she has two strange pill shaped objects above her eyebrows, her fans now appear and disappear at her will (as long as they are in her hands) rather than concealed behind the yellow bow on her back.
On Earth, it has been shown that Yumi is an excellent fighter. It seems she is skilled in various forms of oriental martial arts, including Pencak Silat, which she practices with Ulrich, as she fights her clone bravely in Image Problem, and is quite strong despite her physical build. She is also quite fast in the real world, and she holds the Kadic school record in the hundred metre sprint. She is also quite persuasive, as she often convinces teachers to let her go during a XANA attack.
Being mature and intelligent, Yumi usually isn't bothered by Sissi's rude comments, and has been known to understand Herb's plight and motives, as seen in The Robots. She doesn't have a strong opinion of the other students, although she has a good relationship with Jim (why she does is unclear), and is Jeremie's best friend.

Yumi Ishiyama

Yumi on Lyoko.
Yumi Ishiyama is a member of Team Lyoko. She is the oldest person in the group (being a year ahead of the others), and often takes care of the younger members, despite some of their greater intelligence. She is one of the Lyoko Warriors, and one of Aelita's closest friends.

Trivia

  • In Vertigo, It is revealed that he's afraid of spiders.
  • William is the newest addition to Team Lyoko, but ironically, on his first mission, he ended up becoming XANA's slave for the rest of the series.
  • William is the only one that has a Nav Skid not belonging to the Skidbladnir.
  • He is the only male in Team Lyoko that was attacked by the Scyphozoa.
  • It is now and forever unknown whether William's costume reverted back to the silver suit or remained black due to his lengthy possession by XANA. Even his Lyoko avatar no longer shows the silver suit he wore previously, which suggests that he may still have the black suit.
  • William's Eye of XANA isn't in his eyes like when most other people are possessed; he has it on his forehead, signifying his mostly being under XANA's total control. But when he appeared on Earth, either in materialized form or teleported, he had the sign of XANA in his eyes.
  • William produces red ripples upon entering a Tower.
  • William became the "cool joker" at Kadic after he got suspended from his old school for pasting love letters everywhere. Even Jim thought he was "cool" and wanted him in charge of the wreck room.
  • He's Ulrich's rival, thus, the foil of Sissi.
  • He was the only member of Team Lyoko who did not join the others in shutting down the supercomputer.
  • William is rejected by Yumi in Echoes, thus putting an end, a temporary one at least, to the romance between them.
William is the first Lyoko Warrior to change his attire, in this case a XANA uniform.

Dunbar Descripition

William arrived at Kadic Academy in New Order because he was kicked out of his old school for pasting love letters everywhere. He enrolled in the ninth grade, quickly taking a liking to Yumi. However, due to his jerky attitude and constant need to outdo Ulrich constantly, Yumi liked him less and less, although it is still implied he has a crush on her.
William's personality is self-centered and overconfident but still caring. It is often indicated most things he does are done to improve his social status. He constantly strives to outdo others in whatever they seem to be doing. Thus, William could be treated as the opposite of Ulrich, whom he doesn't seem to think of as that large of a threat to his fancy and pursuit of Yumi in romantic fashion. William, due to his brash nature, might sometimes harm others without meaning to. For example, in Final Round, he challenged the Scyphozoa to a battle, and lost, only to trying prove himself a good Lyoko Warrior. William might suffer from inner low self-confidence, but if this is so, he constantly wants to regret this and best his schoolmates. However, he does act more mature in certain situations. For example, in Attack of the Zombies, William did all he could to protect the remaining students from being zombified and wouldn't let anyone leave for their own safety, though in doing this he delayed the group from getting to Lyoko but he meant well.
XANA-William as a spectre.
In The Secret, William helps the Lyoko Warriors tremendously in their fight against XANA, doing everything except going to Lyoko himself. After that, Team Lyoko held a vote about whether or not William should be allowed to become a Lyoko Warrior. (In order for him to get in, it had to be a unanimous vote.) However, Yumi voted against him joining because she felt that he could not be trusted, and he supposedly forgot all about it after a Time reversion. However, it seems that he began to dream about the incident afterwards, as he revealed later in the episode The Secret.
Yumi still does not think that he can be trusted in Double Trouble, but she changes her mind by the end of the episode after he helps out once again, and asks him to join their group. He accepts, and, in Final Round, is virtualized onto Lyoko.
On Lyoko, William is dressed in silver-black armor with a red belt. His weapon is a large sword which can fire energy beams that act like razors, although because he first exhibited this ability while possessed by XANA, it might be that this was XANA-induced, and not actually a genuine power. His sword is quite heavy, although it is powerful, and it can cut monsters in half quite easily (or at least, cut Creepers in half easily).
Like Odd, William seems to enjoy fighting monsters on Lyoko more often then not, perhaps a bit too much... On his very first mission to Lyoko in Final Round, his desire to keep fighting monsters led him to pick a fight with the Scyphozoa all by himself, although Jeremie repeatedly told him to run away. This led to William losing and being possessed by XANA, who used him to completely destroy Lyoko by destroying The Core.
William returns to Earth in the episode Down to Earth.
In the episode The Lake, William faces off against Yumi on Lyoko. He initially gains an advantage, and is about to devirtualize her when she desperately reminds him that he is a Lyoko Warrior. He reacts, having flashbacks to when he was initiated into the group, similar to the way that Aelita had memories of her past. He seems to momentarily break free of XANA's control, but eventually succumbs to his influence again. This is the first instance of one of XANA's possessed slaves exhibiting free will, if only a bit. It also shows that William is not following XANA willingly.
William is known to be able to move swiftly through the Network easily, but XANA made him his own personal Nav Skid, the Rorkal, which does not attach to the Skidbladnir. He needs it in order to attack Team Lyoko while in the Network, because without it all he can do is just pass through it; he can't affect it like Franz Hopper can.
William is finally set free in Down to Earth thanks to a program Jeremie created. The program required William to be devirtualized so it could activate. Thanks to Odd, that happened. Afterwards he replaced his clone at Kadic and his affection for Yumi resurfaced. In Fight to the Finish he wants to gain the group's trust back. However, all but Aelita are wary of trusting him again. So he remains in the lab with Jeremie. This, however, turned out to be a huge mistake as XANA takes this chance to posses William (again) and fight off Yumi and Ulrich. However, this possession was very short as XANA was destroyed, returning William back to his old self.
He later returns back to his old ways of flirting with Yumi. Although he is seemingly turned down by her in Echoes, it is left uncertain if he is still allies with the members of Team Lyoko. William did not join them in the shutting down of the supercomputer

William Dunbar

William's Season 4 outfit.
William Dunbar is a member of Team Lyoko and a ninth grader at Kadic Academy. He is mostly known for being Ulrich Stern's primary competitor for Yumi's heart. Presumptuous and snide, William is commonly treated as a minor adversary to the Lyoko Warriors, despite becoming one in the end.

Trivia

  • Ulrich is, by far, the most muscular and physically developed member of the group. A few fans have nicknamed him "The King of Spandex".
  • Ulrich, like most of the others, uses a skateboard to travel to the Factory.
  • Ulrich despises Sissi, or, at least, just doesn't like her, mostly because she is a selfish, spoiled brat and is always chasing him.
  • Ulrich's last name (Stern), Odd's last name (Della Robbia), and Jeremie's last name (Belpois) can be heard in Exploration.
  • In The Chips Are Down, Ulrich was temporarily banned from the team after Jeremie and the others found out about him activating a time reversion. He was brought back into the group after he confessed that his actions were selfish and disrespectful. There is a dramatic irony in this, as others of Team Lyoko have used the Supercomputer to their advantage.
  • Ulrich was on the Kadic soccer team in a few episodes of the first season, most notably Zero Gravity Zone. In the second season, there is no mention of the team or Jim's coaching job, so it's likely that the team was disassembled.
  • Ulrich was the only one seen in virtual form in the pilot, Garage Kids
  • He is William's rival.
  • He took down the Kolossus all on his own.
  • In the episode Hard Luck he is seen in green boxers.
  • Ulrich is the only one gain a new weapon (his extra katana) in the fourth season; the other members of the group received theirs in the 2nd-3rd seasons (Odd gaining over 10,000 lazer arrows, Yumi gaining an extra fan, and Aelita's energy fields)
  • Interestingly, in season one whenever he was devirtualised, he was not shown coming out of the scanners. The only exception to this is in Killer Music.
  • He played the keyboard in the Pop Rock Progressives.
  • Other than William, Ulrich is the only member of Team Lyoko who has not piloted the Skid.
  • He saves Yumi from falling into the Digital Sea multiple times.

Stern Description

Ulrich is 14 Earth years of age and attends Kadic. He boards at the school, sharing a room with his best friend, Odd. A shy and quiet student, Ulrich often draws the attention of many girls, but is best known for his romantic relationship with Yumi. Ulrich, in his spare time, usually plays soccer or studies, as his report card isn't one to brag about. He also suffers from Low Self Confidence, mostly because of his parents, whom are extremely hard to please, as seen in Zero Gravity Zone.
On our fair planet, Ulrich is quite athletic, like Yumi and Odd, and is a practitioner of Pencak Silat. He is good at one-on-one conversations and convincing people to do things, as he did to James Finson in End of Take, and is very nice to most of the other students. Because of his relationship with Yumi, however, many people are mean to him, such as Theo and William. Ulrich is also constantly pestered by Sissi, the principal's daughter, who wants to be his girlfriend, much to his disgust. However, it is sometimes implied that he also has feelings for her. For this fact, Herb dislikes him very much, and in one episode even sent Nicholas to beat him up for going on a date with Sissi (after being blackmailed by her). Any fight that could have occurred, however, was stopped by Jeremie, who insisted Herb take it up with Sissi instead.
In other instances, Ulrich is known to put Sissi's obsession with with him to good use, such as when he needed to get Yumi out of the Principal's office, or when he used Sissi as a spy to expose that William is scared of spiders.
In Lyoko, Ulrich is the only one with a short-range weapon, that is, his Saber. This digital sword can strike enemies in their Eye of XANA or be used to deflect Lasers. Ulrich has been known to use his body as a shield to protect Aelita if needed. In the virtual world Ulrich can also use Super Speed, which can greatly improve his katana's range of attack and defense, as well as a special technique called Triplication, which creates two clones of himself to fight alongside Team Lyoko. These clones die in one hit from a monster, however. With his clones, Ulrich can also Triangulate a monster, creating a triangle around it, confusing it, then striking out at it.
Ulrich's old real world outfit
After Jeremie updates the teams virtual equipment in Double Take Ulrich's samurai uniform is switched for a yellow and brown body suit (similar to William's) which also contains 2 Katanas for extra attack power. Other than that, like the rest of Team Lyoko, he also received new clothes in the world. During Season 4 Ulrich's silent and sulky attitude remained relatively the same, but the difference is that with William under XANA's control, he had no real competition against for Yumi's affection, which decreased the drama cases he usually causes like in he did in Vertigo and Marabounta when he sulks for looking foolish in front of Yumi. In that Vertigo, it is revealed that Ulrich is scared of heights, which William uses to his advantage to to tease him. Later that episode after a Return to the Past, Ulrich takes the high road and admits he has vertigo, and that it's better than William's Phobia of spiders.

Ulrich Stern

Ulrich Stern is a member of Team Lyoko and the unofficial leader. He is a quiet and shy person by nature, quite the opposite of his best friend, Odd, whom he is roommates with. He is one of the Lyoko Warriors, and one of Princess Aelita's closest friends.

Trivia

  • Many fans believe that Odd's parents are artists, but Odd's father is also thought to be a combat general in the French army. Evidence to this theory is how Odd says "About face," a military expression, in several episodes.
  • In A Fine Mess, it is discovered that Odd has something "gross" inside of his shoes. Ulrich mentions that it's "more powerful than a Lazer Arrow". It later turns out to be that his feet stink.
  • He is the creator and singer of the song/music video Break Break Break Dance.
  • In XANA's Kiss, Odd claimed to have dated every girl in the eighth grade except Aelita and Sissi. He has (surprisingly) made more attempts at the later, however, resulting in more hatred and jealousy from Herb.
  • Odd's favorite monsters are Bloks, as quoted by him in The Girl of the Dreams, and he has no trouble destroying them. His least favorite monsters are Creepers.
  • In XANA Awakens Part 1, Odd let his hair down at first, but he started to wear his hair in its current style after going to Lyoko for the first time. (He liked the "Lyoko look".)
  • Odd appears to be able to speak fluent Italian as shown in Attack of the Zombies when he shows off against Jeremie.
  • In Kadic Bombshell, Odd and Sissi somewhat flirt. She admits she envies him, and Odd then runs after her saying he was foolish to like her pen-pal. In Bad Connection, it was revealed that Odd normally makes Sissi look foolish in his films, but made her sound "as beautiful as a butterfly" in the episode.
  • Odd was, along with Aelita, almost killed when the Kolossus destroyed the Skid in the episode Down to Earth. Luckily Jeremie managed to materialize Odd just in time, though this was not shown.
  • Odd has a purple pen. One part is light purple, the other is dark purple.
  • Odd has a silver cell-phone.
  • Odd, unlike the rest of his comrades, has never been devirtualized by the Kolossus.
  • The name Odd is most likely derived from "Oddr" meaning "tip of the arrow" in Norse. [1] If this is the case, then it may be the reason Odd's weapon on Lyoko is an 'arrow' launcher.
  • With the obvious exception of Aelita, Odd is virtualized more than any other member of Team Lyoko. This is especially noticeable in Season One.
  • Odd has invented all of the monsters names on Lyoko.
  • In XANA Awakens, Odd uses his shield in his first fight against the Bloks, but until Season 2 Odd didn't have a shield. Instead, he had his "Future Flash". The reason for this is not explained, though it was likely just a goof.
  • Odd was possessed by XANA once like the rest of his friends. Aelita was possessed by XANA multiple times by the Scyphozoa, Jeremie was possessed in Mister Puck, William was possessed in the Season 3 episode Final Round and all episodes of Season 4 except for Echoes, Ulrich's body was possessed when his spirit and body were accidentally separated in Nobody in Particular, and Yumi was possessed when she was fused with a bee that was possessed by XANA in the magazine issue Insekt. Even Kiwi was possessed in Attack of the Zombies, who later bit and possessed Odd himself.

Della Robbia Description

Odd, like his name, is very odd--and quite stubborn too. He wears a purple outfit both on Lyoko and on Earth, usually with some pink in it and yellow accompaniments to match his hair, which has a purple streak in the middle. His night clothes are red and yellow, not purple, but this is probably due to the fact he did not buy them.
Odd's Lyoko look in the Fourth Season
He claims in various episodes, such as in Swarming Attack and The Key, that he knows how the female mind works, that he has a "way" with females, etc. Naturally, he is horribly wrong, as most of the girls slap him hard in the face most of the time. Odd's Lyoko outfit looks like a feline, complete with a tail and claws (which he can use to climb). Strangely enough, Odd's shirt has a picture of a dog (probably Kiwi) peeing. His weapons are Lazer Arrows, rather dandy laser bolts which go in a straight line and inflict damage upon impact. In the first season, he carries ten on each arm, and could run out of them on a bad day. In the second season, Jeremie gives Odd an upgrade that allows him to carry 10,000 arrows on each arm. His forehead and cheeks also have purple markings on them. Odd's family is seemingly Norwegian and Italian, and his parents are artists, maybe causing their son's unusual sense of fashion. He knows, or at least claims to know, Pencak Silat, as he can be seen sparring with Ulrich on many occasions. In Attack of the Zombies, he even kicked a zombie version of Jim in the chest just after commanding the others to get inside the Cafeteria. Odd also stated he felt good after kicking Jim.
Odd as a spectre.
Odd is Ulrich's best friend, and shares a dorm with him at Kadic. He is a member of the eighth grade, but does not do well due to the fact he spends most of the time in class drawing pictures of Kiwi when he should be taking notes. His pictures are very detailed, however, and he puts a lot of work into them. He enjoys folding his tests into paper cranes, which Jim then collects. He knows various fighting techniques like boxing (how he learned them is not made clear), and has the knowledge of the stereotypical prankster, as demonstrated in Satellite when he picks locks to get his cell phone back. He is also good at performing music, as he formed a rock group called the Pop Rock Progressives in Seeing is Believing and played the guitar for a play in Laughing Fit. He also does not like biology, as he states in Ghost Channel.
Odd's Season 4 outfit.
He is shown to be able to eat large quantities of food, even eating food off the trays of his friends. Ulrich has even commented that he has more than one stomach. Despite his rather large appetite, he maintains his "svelte" body through his metabolism. Because of his high metabolism and sky-high energy levels, many people call him "scrawny"; this is met with the line "I'm not scrawny, I'm svelte!". Although Odd has been able to get dates with many girls, the relationships usually end as sour as a lemon. By the end of his 8th grade year, his bad reputation had finally circulated and he is now unable to get a date with anyone. However, all hope is not lost for him; he is trying to win over Sissi's heart. He is very fluent in Italian, but he is also capable of speaking Japanese and Chinese, as demonstrated in A Fine Mess when he is in Yumi's body. In Double Take Odd's new outfit is briefly shown when he saves Yumi, he keeps his paws and tail and purple colour but his new outfit includes a set of cat ears and a slightly chromish addition to the design. In Maiden Voyage his real world outfit is also changed; he now wears a purple hoodie with a pink undershirt and purple jeans with black boxers.

Odd Della Robbia

Odd Della Robbia is a member of Team Lyoko and possibly the most popular among fans for being kindhearted, carefree and funny. He calls himself a ladies' man, but the females he's dated would say the opposite. He likes the color purple, and wears it on most of his clothes. He is one of the Lyoko Warriors and one of Aelita's closest friends, and possibly more than that because he kisses her in Season 4, though this may be just part of his flirty personality. XANA is also his sworn enemy, and he doesn't like Sissi's stupid and childish behavior, but probably wants to like her.
